About The Event

The Deeside Local Food Festival was formed in 2015 with a grant from the Think Local Community Food Fund to celebrate the Year of Food and Drink Scotland 2015.   It was a great success with over 1,500 visitors and 23 local food producers in attendance.  Since then it grew in size and popularity.  For the third year running the 2019 festival welcomed approx. 3,500 visitors.  The number of local food and drink businesses who participated also increased to 74, demonstrating a strong appetite for a community food event in the local area.

The festival provided a chance for both the nearby community and for visitors from further away to come together to enjoy a family day out while supporting food and drink businesses from North East Scotland.  Visitors commented that they particularly enjoyed being able to speak with local food producers as well as try before they buy, the relaxed atmosphere at the festival and the large range of activities on offer for all the family.  The festival particularly focused on attracting independent producers who are local to Aberdeen City or Shire with over 90% from an AB postcode each year.

After 5 successful years based in Cults it was time to relocate to a larger venue and working closely with our partners at National Trust for Scotland the 2020 festival was planned to take place at Crathes Castle.  This was to be a very exciting move for the event however Covid restrictions, of course, prevented the event from happening.
